maco film problems

Hi group,
I send this message again because I discovered, that together with the first
message I had attached a picture of my first developed maco-film. Just to
show you what problem I encountered. WJ hasn't sent it to you as according
to the list-rules it is forbidden to attach pictures. Sorry WJ! I will now
take up a link in this message to the said picture of the faulty negatives.

I shot my first Maco-film 35 mm. This is the pre-production type I got from
Hamburg. Sensitivity up to 820 NM. (the new films will go to 840 NM!).
My experiences are as follows:
1. developed in XTOL 1+1 12 minutes at 21 degrees C.
2. with #25 red filter there are no wood-effects, so use a stronger filter
3. with #89B or B+W092 the exposure index should be 25 ASA, this is the
ideal type of filter for this film. Gives sharp, fine grain and contrasty
negatives with excellent wood effect.
4. with #87C the exposure index should be set at 12 ASA. Negatives still
very thin. I have to do more tests.

There is however a mystery:
See link to the first 6 negatives.

I never got these strange
negatives before. This is the second film, the first film had the same
problem. The rest of the film as from negative nr. 6 is OK, it's only the
first beginning. Both films were (un)loaded in absolute darkness as I always
do with HIE. The camera is working properly. I suspect the films as they are
pre-production samples and the cartridges do not look very sturdy.. Who
knows the answer? I have sent copy of this message also to Maco in Hamburg.
Maco please react.

Last question: why must the anti halation coating be washed off prior to
film development? This is recommended by the manufacturer. This coating
will be washed off automatically during development of any film as usual?
Why this special treatment and an extra step in the development process for
Maco? I can't see the sense of it!
Greetings,
Jaap Los
