         If I can jump in here, I have had several thin negatives learning 
to use Maco 820.  With a red filter, the film is really slow, you almost 
have to rate it as slow as Konica 750 when shooting filtered, maybe a stop 
or two above.  Still not 100% sure myself.

         Onto the Xtol "mystery", I have had similar problems with Xtol and 
non IR films.  Switching to 5 litre packages and using only distilled water 
made those thin negative problems go away completely.  Why, I don't know, 
but it worked for me.

         Finally, onto my earleir message of Maco 820 gumming up my film 
holder, I received a very nice and  prompt reply form One Cachet 
yesterday.  They don't knwo either, but hte service was great.  Despite my 
problems, I'll be orderign more Maco in the future.
