Well, not exactly, but their development of conductive plastics has led to a coating
incorporated in photographic film to prevent static electricity from becoming part
of our images. I have never seen this promoted or claimed by any of the big film
makers, so maybe it is only used in expensive, special purpose films. On the other
hand, I have often wondered how all these motorized cameras manage to rewind film so
fast without any static electricity marks. Possibly this Nobel-quality discovery
explains it.
Anyway I, like you, would be cautious and use the film-backing-paper approach until
I know for certain that IR films incorporate anti-static polymers.
