travelling with HIE

i took a brief trip this weekend (this is within the USA). as usual, i
carried on my camera, had my film out of their canisters in clear ziploc
bags for handchecking at security stops. as usual, my HIE was in there, in
a canister. unlike every other time i have travelled, they insisted on
opening the canister almost every single time i went through security. the
first time, the guy was too fast for me to stop him. the second, i managed
to convince them to open it under my jacket (though it wasn't that much of
an improvement -- they still looked), the third time i told the woman
about four times that it was light sensitive and she couldn't open it and
just when i thought she understood, she opened it.

anyway, i don't know if this is a new policy, a newly more
tightly-enforced policy, or a run of bad luck. i would advise either:
- just let your HIE go through the x-ray in your carry-on bag (the x-ray
  shouldnt harm the HIE)
- buy rolland's daylight-loadable HIE
- at least put clear tape over your canisters to slow them down (i usually
  do but forgot this time)

by the way, should i just toss the thrice-briefly-exposed HIE (it's unshot
film, fortunately).
