I have two pieces of advice for you:
1.  Switch to Nikon, sorry couldn't resist.
2.  Never ever ask people on photo email groups how to repair your camera 
equipment. All you'll get in response is people telling you what they think 
is wrong. None of these people have any experience about repairing camera 
equipment and most have nothing better to do than to sit around and ponder 
solutions to problems they have no experience with. At least that's been my 
experince for the last several years reading photo.net threads. I've been 
repairing Nikon equipment for quite some time and I've yet to read any 
useful repair tips on photo.netor any other list. Canon is even worse in 
this respect since all of their current lenses are electronic in operation. 
Take it to a authorized service center pay out the $$$ and go on with life.

Also when I put it on my camera the shutter will not open.  All it does
is beep. Has anyone had this problem before?
What is the service at canon in Canada like for this problem.  I have
never had any problems like this before.  What is the best thing to do?>>
