Hi everyone! I am a brand new member to this list and wanted to say hello
to you all.
I have not yet tried any infrared photography but I can't wait to try it.
With winter coming soon here in the US, I'm not sure how many good infrared
photo opportunities I will be having until spring. I do mostly landscapes,
but without leaves on the trees this time of year, it's probably not the
best time to start.
I am an amateur photographer from Michigan, USA. As I said, I have not tied
any infrared yet, but plan on doing so. I have always been fascinated by
the color infrared images (magenta vegetation, dark skies, ghostly skin
appearance, etc) and I am hoping to pick up a lot of knowledge from the
people on here. I have MANY very basic questions (film speed settings,
exposure settings, etc) but I will wait and ask them at a later time :)
One question I do have to start with: where is a good place to send the
infrared b&w print film and color slides for processing?
I live in a rural area and the very few labs in my area don't want anything
to do with infrared film. One lab I DID find that would process it wants
about $25.00 to develop and print (4"x6" prints) a roll of 36 exp b&w, a
bit cheaper with just a proof sheet.
Can anyone recommend a reliable mail order lab in the USA that handles b&w
and color infrared, and what should I expect to pay for processing and
printing?
One more question: would it make sense to send a roll of the Kodak color
infrared slide film directly to Kodak in one of their prepaid slide mailers
and expect them to process it? I have had good results with "normal"
(non-infrared) slides using this method, but was wondering if Kodak would
process the infrared film if I bought a mailer, especially since it is now
an E-6 process. Just curious :)
Thanks in advance!
Dave
