What it all boils down to is that George is right with his comments below:
"I asked one of the Kodak infrared guys about
this. He told me that the light seal is not IR opaque AND that piping is a
problem. Cheers -George"
I sell daylight loadable IR film. The felt is the MAJOR problem. The light
piping is also a problem, but to less of an extent.
Many people have experienced/seen HIE negatives that have edges that bleed
into the next frame. This is lightpiping at work. Usually most apparent at
longer exposures greater than 1/60 of a second. The reason it isn't more
pronounced is because the angle of incidence is not severe enough and the
exposure time is too short.
