pinholes in infrared sheet film

What do you think of this statement:  in the Sept/Oct issue of Darkroom and
Creative Camera Techniques, Jack Wilkerson says, "One year, dozens of pin
holes appeared on each sheet when developing the film in D-76.  The cause is
unknown, but there is a simple solution.  Hold the film in the stopbath
solution 2 or 3 minutes before pouring off the stopbath..."
     Do you think this is an answer to the pinhole dilemma of a few months
back on this list, or, since the magazine article was from 1993, is it
outmoded?
