Phillip,
I have shot several rolls of MACO IR820 film, both in 35 mm and 120 spool.
It doesn't have the look as HIE and we all know that. Still I like the film,
it has a fine grain, is sharp and easy to handle and gives good pictures. It
doesn't have the "character" of HIE. If I want to make real artistic pics, I
prefer HIE. The best results with MACO IR820 are obtained when a #89B
filter (B+W092) is used. I set the exposure at ISO25 and develop in XTOL 1+1
for 11 min. at 20 C. The first test rolls I got from the factory were no
good. I'm sure that packing the film was done in the wrong way and all the
films (totally 5!) were partly exposed by stray light (the first 6
exposures). It was a disappointment to me that the supplier didn't want to
replace these films and blamed the developer, which was of course purely
nonsense!. Later I ordered 20 rolls 35 mm and they were all allright. When
you look at my website (see address in the footer below) you can see some
samples of pics in MACO infrared (in gallery nr. 4). MACO 35 mm must be
(un)loaded in absolute darkness. I'm not sure yet if MACO 120 spool should
be handled in the same way. I loaded this film in subdued daylight and had
no problems. However it looks to me that the base of the film in 120 spool
is not as clear as the 35 mm type. It's a bit grayish. As this covers the
whole film evenly I don't think there is a light leakage due to daylight
loading. I still have to do some more testing the 120 spool type to give a
final verdict. My conclusion at this moment: a good film that I will
certainly use much more in future! Phil, I have no objections if you want to
refer to my website.
