Filter between the rails Questions

Could someone point me in the direction of the technique for installing a
filter between the film rails on my camera?
What filter and material would be best suited for this technique?
How would I test my completed setup for proper exposure?
Has anyone posted anything on this subject?

I want to make this modification to one of my bodies and dedicate it to IR.
