RE: Any experience with Coolpix 950 for UV photography?

Hi Matt,

Well Mr. Rørslett's site is simply stunning. I don't think I can hold a
candle to that. His work with both UV and IR is amazing. I am intrigued by
what the D1 can do and when they come down in price, in the next couple of
years, I will look to buy one.

If you are in the US can I recommend Filter Connection at www.2filter.com
for any filters you might need for you digital camera ? I got my filters
for my E-10 and C2000 there and the staff are really helpful.

The Hoya R72C is equivalent to the Wratten 87. It is also considerably more
expensive than the Wratten 89 but I will be getting one of those soon to see
how it fairs with the E-10.

Regards,

Colin McLaughlan

Colin,

I too have had results like this from teh 950 and the R72. The R72 only
clips at 720nm, and is actually not opaque. I think it is equivalent to
Wratten 87. I have a Heliopan that clips at 780nm and this gives completely
monochrome pictures even in colour mode, this one is more equivalent to the
Wratten 87C.

Having had discussions off list about UV imaging, I have come to realise
that a Wratten 18A or Hoya U370 are required to clip to UV light only. Some
images to inspire can be found at
http://hawk.foto.no/pinhole/nikon/index2_PC.html

I am currenlty looking for a smaller R72, mine is a littel too big to be
practicle for my 950 but my Heliopan is just right and gives great results.

:)

Matt
