Thanks for the reference Marco. The following is taken from the
book, which was written by Dr. Emil Mayer in 1923:
"On account of the extraordinary perfection of modern objectives, the
small negatives produced by modern hand cameras can be enlarged
practically without limit. The advantages of a portable camera are so
considerable that large and heavy tripod cameras have practically
gone out of use,
except for certain special purposes."
Ah, those halcyon days of the 20's - those objectives must have had
a rosy tint ;-) Bet that there were still many peops heaving around
big cameras well into the 1950's.
