First, I would wonder if fiber paper would be appropriate for this. 
Personally, I would look to warm press watercolor paper to print digital prints
on.  I believe that the ink would work much better on that type of paper (at
least, I did not like the results I got when using MGIV fiber, as opposed to
watercolor).

The inks are the problem, and certainly that have gotten better over the past
couple of years.  Hopefully, within the next several years they will get these
things to last at least in terms of centuries.

Platinum certainly is an archival way to go, though an expensive one. <g>  If
you really want to get playing around with this sort of thing, you might want
to give Ziatype a try (I've got an article about this on my site -
http://members.home.net/hmpi/AltProcess/Articles/AltArticles.htm).  Of course,
if you are not into the Alternative Processes, you might think this a bit
extreme. <g>
