When the reels are wet, then all bets are off.  If I have washed mine recently,
then after violently waving them in the air, I will place them in the microwave
and nuke them for a while.

I missed the note that the reels were a Hong Kong conception.  Allow me to
suggest that this would be a good candidate for upgrade as soon as possible.  A
Patterson tank will last you pretty much forever and is a great piece of
equipment to use.  Mine is about a dozen years old, and I'll be upset if it
doesn't last another dozen.
