Just a short comment in support of one paragraph...

First off, I'm not recommending either that anyone start out in camera
modification this way. However, I have had the need to separate lenses
which had been cemented. After a variety of experiments, I found through a
friend that a chemical commonly called DMSO, used by health types, is a
remarkable solvent for many lens cements. The elements to be separated must
be immersed in DMSO, so this may rule out the removal of IR filters from
the CCD. However, it is useful to know that DMSO will work.
After about a week's time in a bath of DMSO, my two optical components
separated by hand, and left a thin sheet of the original cement floating in
the remaining liquid.
Final disclaimer: DMSO may be hazardous: I don't know. It may ruin
electronics or other components, or dissolve things you'd rather not have
dissolve. You are big boys and girls: I'm not responsible for your use of DMSO>
