Nathan,
The lines you describe are very commonly due to the extra turbulence that
the sprocket holes cause when agitating.  Suggest less frequent and more
gentle agitation.  For HIE in D76, I agitate once each 30 sec, but three of
every four agitations is a slow roll of the tank  on the sink floor and
only one is a gentle two-time inversion.
