I wonder if a point source/condenser viewer would produce noticeably more contrast due to the Callier effect.  Dye clouds in transparency films scatter less than silver grains in a B&W
negative, but there might still be a density increase for directional vs non directional illumination.  The visible contrast increase, if any, would be pretty tough to quantify.
