[MF3D.FORUM:17] MF mounts

I've been spending a lot of time on stereo mounts
lately. I think the MF mount design was discussed
on the list a great deal when Joel was working
on his mounts, but that was all before my time
here. (I just remember some discussion of the
Panoramic mount design.)

A few times recently I've looked at the Reel-3D
discussion of using Gepe mounts for twin 2x2.
I noticed in particular their suggestiong of
mixing and matching different halves to get
a variety of aperture dimensions. Lately I've
been wondering whether a similar idea would
work for MF stereo cardboard mounts.

I know that Greg E. has mentioned sometimes
using two back halves of Joel's mounts to get
a 52 x 52 aperture. But what if we had a
series of half-mounts, something like 50x50,
52.5x52.5, 55x55, etc. Then you could pick
the amount of cropping you needed.

In addition to providing more cropping options
for standard Sputnik (6x6) type images, I'm
interested in coming up with something that
will let 6x7 shooters squeeze a little extra
benefit out of their wider images.

The SaturnSlide viewer would need to be
opened up a bit to accommodate a wider
format image area. What about all y'all's
home made viewers? What kind of maximum
image area can they handle?
