I've mixed and matched backs and fronts
from various sizes of mounts to crop my
images. And to get 52x52mm to have less
cropping than normal.

  If you put a 40x50 and a 50x40 together
you do have to blacken the mount (with marker
or tape) or you will have too much light
come through the single layer cardboard.
(Annoying because you can see the photo
through it).

With square on square (50x50 on 52x52)
it looks okay because the single layer
edge is only a millimeter wide.

I like the idea of having some different
sizes. Personally something smaller than
50x50 would be nice for minor cropping when
40x50 or 50x40 is too much cropping.

I don't think any of my cameras could use
55x55 since my Sputnik lenses are vertically
missaligned (to have good meshing on the focusing
gears). And my other MF cameras don't have
the stereo window at infinity, so I have to
"waste" 2.5mm to move it into 7' or whatever.

For 6x7 the best might be to open up
the front side to 50x58 (or however thin
you could get away with at the center and
edges) and have no middle bar in the back
side of the mount.

  I have a 50x50mm blackening mask about
10mm in front of my slide slot. So I can
see my 52x52mm slides okay but couldn't
go much bigger. Though I could replace it
with a 52x52 blackened mount and then be
able to see 54x54 or whatever.
