Hi Folks,
After turning a friend onto 3d, he wanted a to get into the field with
camera that had the appeal of the Victorian era. Not being able to afford a
real stereo tailboard camera, he picked up an old 4x5 for $90 that had a
sliding lensboard. He then came up with a great viewer for it.
There's some pix at:

I'm not sure why it's been neglected, but two stereo pairs on 4x5 film has
a lot of advantages: Rise and tilt, excellent optics, budget for all
expenses, lots of film choices, duping capability, etc. I was amazed at how
much depth was attended from the 2 1/4" stereo base, and it's great for
portraits. His first attempts were with a single lens slide to the left and
right, but now he has two identical enlarger lenses mounted side by side.
Regarding the viewer, it comes apart for storage, and the drawer holds the
stereo views. Another great advantage is that the large optics from a pair
of used 7x35 binoculars are the perfect focal length for this format!
Darcy would appreciate any comments you may have on his creation, and he'd
be honored if his viewer can go on Robert Thorpe's MF Viewer page.
