Some view cameras had a sliding lens board which allowed the lens to be 
positioned center, left, or right regardless of the orientation of the
front standard. Matching this in the rear would be a sliding shutter
arrangement to permit multiple exposures on the same piece of film. I
had a Kodak 2D in 7x11 that had been built to make 2 5x7's on one sheet
of 7x11. Most cameras I have run across with sliding lens boards have
had the rear shutter removed and were just used in the centered front
position. A stereo view camera would have an equally wide lens board but
no rear shutter because there would have to be a divider in the bellows
to separate the images.
