[MF3D.FORUM:188] Re: Welcome new MF3D'ers

Hi to all the MF3d members from Dennis Hanser -- new member

My interest in 3-d photography started 20 some years ago when a friend
asked me to fix his Kodak stereo camera. Believe it or not I had never
seen or heard of stereo photography before. After repairing a sticky
shutter assembly, I ran a roll of film thru the camera, had it processed
by Kodak and was hooked immediatly upon seeing the results. Within a
short time I found the Detroit Stereographic Society and learned much as
a mmber. On and off thru the ensuing years, I have managed to figure out
how to do macro 3-d with an slr and a slide bar, done a little 6x6 with
a Rollieflex TLR on a slide bar and the bulk of our family
travel/vacation photography with a twin minolta rig. Learning has
accelerated exponentially due to the discussion groups on the internet
and I am grateful for the fact that stereo enthusiasts can now
communicate so effectively. My interest in medium format has been
rekindled due to an ever increasing hunger/desire for greater quality in
hand viewing stereo slides. The recent postings on quality lenses
available for hand making your own viewer are inspiring. I plan on
dusting off the TLR, making a few slide bar views, building a viewer and
see where it goes from there. The bulk of my stereo will probably still
be done with 35mm due to the fact that I enjoy club competitions and the
occasional participation in international salons, but would like to do a
few things in medium format just for my own personal enjoyment.
Eventually, if expectations are realized or exceeded, I would like to
trade in the old TLR and purchase 6x7 equipment, but that will have to
wait for now.

So -- a few questions

Is reasonably distortion free viewing of the entire MF frame possible?

Are reasonably priced viewers available?
I seem to remember someone is selling handmade viewers, and also would
like to explore making one myself, with proper guidance of course.

Mounting questions abound. Not so much the actual mounting, but
availability and cost and practicality of the mounts themselves. I have
MF Geppe mounts, but feel this would be prohibitively expensive for use
on all views. Are there some kind of snapin or similiar mount available?

I have more but will close for now as this is getting long.

As I have sporadic access to the internet, please don't be offended if I
do not respond immediately. I will try to be as responsive as time and
access allows.

Thanks again for allowing me to join this group and I am looking forward
to a great learning experience!!!
