MF3D group:
I've been on the Internet since before it was commercial (1992) and have
written 9 books about the Internet. The first books mentioned the problems
with sending anything but basic text files (there was Bitnet and other
systems that had problems translating anything but basic ASCII text)
Time has come, however, for lists to understand that the *majority* of users
have graphics capabilities, and that the very small minority with basic text
capabilites will now have to be the exceptions that are inconvenienced.
As to the time involved -- I live in the sticks in West Texas -- even with
the best modems I am limited to 28.8 -- but I don't need to complain about
large files -- Windows is (along with most other current systems), after all,
multi-tasking. I just check in for mail and then continue with whatever other
task I was working on. When the mail is finished I look at it -- pictures,
attachments and all.
These discussion lists are amazingly informative. I think it is time for us
to update and upgrade our expectations about them.

PS Tom -- You are an amazingly creative and energetic person. Don't want to
offend or hurt you -- just that I've had a lot of experience here and felt I
should comment.
