[MF3D.FORUM:606] Don Lopp phone call
- From: Greg Erker <erker@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: [MF3D.FORUM:606] Don Lopp phone call
- Date: Mon, 29 May 2000 09:51:20 -0600
Don phoned me last night. He is still
have troubles with his computer/email.
His daughter had been there to help him
with it, which may explain the several
responses Don made to the list.
Regarding the movie method of two
cameras pointed towards each other
with 45 degree FS mirrors in between.
Don says it only works with longer
FL lenses. About 100mm and up (but
I'm not sure if he was talking 35mm
or 6x6 at the time). So with normal
or wide angle lenses it won't work.
He also talked about the difficulties
of doing macros with a 50%/50% beamsplitter
mirror system. Primarily due to extra
reflections I guess. But you do have the
ability to have whatever stereo base
you want. By shifting one camera over.
Don also mentioned that he is jealous
of Bill's Mamiya lenses. They are all
Biogon formula and should be very sharp.
He also mentioned that he though Bill's
problems were from objects too near the
cameras (given the wide stereo base).
I've been too busy at work to read all
of Bill's emails in detail. But to find
out the problems I would shoot the same
scene several times: once with the two
Mamiya's at minimum spacing. Next with
a single camera shifting over an amount
equal to the two camera min spacing.
Third with a single camera shifted 2.5".
And forth with two cameras but simulating
a 2.5" stereo base (ie. shoot with left
camera then remove left camera and mount
right camera 2.5" over and shoot with it).
From these four shots you should be
able to see if excessive base is the problem
(1 and 2 bad). If lens missmatch is the
problem (1 and 4 bad).
Or just send your existing slides to Tom
or some other old timer and let them try
to analyze them.
---
Final note: given Don's email problems
I think people should enjoy him when he
is able to reply. But don't take offence if
he can't/doesn't answer your question(s).
Don also mentioned he had taken some
photos that day. So it's good to hear that
his back problems and (medication induced)
brain fog haven't gotten him totally down.
Though he did say he double exposed half
(or was it two thirds) of them.
Happy shooting everyone - Greg E.
