  Don't know the answer to your final
question.

  But, have you checked the focus of
your two lenses with ground glass across
the film plane?  I'm wondering if it
is possible that your body is warped
(a possibility with bakelite I hear)
so it may not be possible to get a
sharp image from the camera.
