A cunning question. Of course, Mr. Themelis pretends not to
understand the optics involved as an elegant ruse to bring up the
genuine disadvantages of medium format projection.
For starters, it's clear that a brief selection of super-sharp medium
format images will quickly demoralize all of the 5 perf and 2x2
shooters there. Let's not forget they outnumber us 100 to 1.
In a dazed state of agitation, they are likely to take out their
frustration on anyone who is unfortunate enough to be carrying a
clunky Sputnik around their neck. Particularly when they find out
the image quality of the cheap, plastic Spud stomps an expensive RBT.
All those people carrying Realists know full well what excellent
weapons they make. They will be likely to use them for that grim
purpose when their definition of "sharp" is involuntarily redefined
for them.
And let's not forget that the prices of Sputniks will rise
dramatically when demand surges. The days of cheap Spuds will become
a fond, wistful memory. It will be a speculator's field day. I think
we should close this list to people who have not seen medium format
as a hedge against spiraling prices.
And then there's all that extra work for Paul once they find out he's
the only source of MF mounts. :^) :^) :^)
Cheers,
Tom
