Inside the Cabin light panel.

In the interests of science I opened
up my Cabin light panel on the weekend.
The Cabin has about 1" extension on
either side of the 4x5" light panel.
The left side is taken up by the battery
compartment (4 AAA's). On the right
side are two small printed circuit boards.
There is a small one at the top housing
the switch and AC adapter jack. It is
about 3/4" square.
Down the side is a long thin one
housing the inverter. It is about
0.3" by 2" long. The rest of the
right side is just empty space.
The fl tube runs across the top
and is thin like the Logan one Tom
mentions.
The lit area itself is similar
to what I expected. When you remove
the top the rigid plastic diffuser
comes with it. Under it was a couple
of thin sheets of diffusing material.
Under that is a clear plastic "block"
with horizontal V-groves molded in
the bottom. I forgot to check if this
plastic block had a taper. But it may
have one so the grooves aren't shadowed
by the one nearer to the tube.
Lastly the block appeared to be wrapped
(bottom and sides) with a thin flexible
white plastic material. The sides were
just bend up (not glued) and are held against
the block by the rest of the light
panel when closed.
So I think this one would work pretty
well for hacking into a viewer also,
but you would have to do some taping to
hold all the loose thin plastic in place
(or have it fit tightly into the viewer).
