PCX and DCX describe the surfaces of the lens. PCX is plano-convex
(one surface is a plane and the other is convex). DCX is double
convex (both surfaces are convex). PCV is plano-concave and DCV is
double concave.

If you want to learn more the Edmunds Industrial Optics "Optics and
Optical Instrument Catalog" has some good introductory optics
information. Edmunds' books ("All about Telescopes", etc.) are really
good for designing simple optical systems, assuming you aren't going
the full computer raytraced route. The books do show you how to
raytrace a system by hand.
