I never used the rangefinder back when the Realist was my primary camera.

Just get a hyperfocal gauge (if there isn't already one surrounding the
focus knob)  and go that route. In fact, I don't know anyone who actually
uses the Realist rangefinder. However, if you're trying to spruce it up
for resale, it's probably worth the trouble of fixing-- $70 is an
excellent price...
