I had a similar problem with an old Halina that I was considering 
pairing. I took about ten inches of 35mm film and rolled it loosely. 
Put a piece of scotch tape over the ends to hold it and then used a 
bit of double sided tape to stick it into the takeup spool side. As 
the film was wound on, the 35mm film compressed and acted as a 
spring. It worked quite well for about five years and was still inplace 
when I gave the camera to one of my grandchildren. Perhaps it is 
still there. It took one or two tries to determine the right place to 
stick it, but once in it was never moved.
Don't we do some weird things in the cause of our hobby???
