Stereo 225 update

Last week I analyzed my test rolls
and found that the right side image
is 0.34% smaller than the left (on
an infinity focused shot and 0.37%
smaller on an indoor shot).

This is pretty good. Much less
than 1%, but I'm spoiled by my Realist,
Sputnik and Ricohflex lenses that are
essentially perfectly matched.

The 0.3% is noticable when you
mount the slides. If the bottoms
are aligned then the tops are cut
off slightly differently. In an
outdoor shot with only sky at the
top you wouldn't notice the 0.3%
difference.

I talked to Sam last night (What?
A voice call? Don't you have email!! :)
and he confirmed my idea of moving
one of the thin spacer shims that
are in the camera (between shutter
and body*) from the left side to
the right.

  I moved a 0.004" spacer from
one side to the other. I hope this
will reduce the size mismatch to
below 0.1%.

The depth of field from shooting
at any reasonable aperture should
cover my slight focus difference.

I picked up some film to shoot another
pair of test rolls. If things work
out as expected the Stereo 225 will be
ready to send off to Sam for linking
of the shutters and apertures.

  More updates will come.

* Each of my Diacords and Ricohmatic
225's have one or more spacer shims
between the shutter and body. As far
as I can tell this is how they adjusted
infinity focus. My left side 225 has
22 thou of shims (12+4+4+2) and the right
had a single 12 thou shim. After the
shim move the left has 18 thou total and
the right 16 thou total.
