  Removing the advance knob and cleaning off
the old grease and relubing may help, but it
only affects the amount of drag you feel when
turning the knob with no film inside.

  The force getting higher as you get to higher
frames makes it seem like the spring on the
take-up side is in the wrong place.

  Does the force required drop way down when you
finish the roll and the supply spool unthreads?
If so, the the supply spool is the problem (I don't
believe this is likely).

  There is some disagreement about which way the
takeup spool spring should be. I haven't shot with
my Sputnik recently but I think I do it different
than Robert suggests:

  Perhaps they changed the springs over time and
the correct position for these springs is different
in different cameras... Maybe?
