Saturnslide

I just finished up the Lewis Saturnslide I picked up from Joel, and these
things are really neat. I'd recommend gluing the back on the lighting unit
box rather than make it removable to strengthen it. You can always pop one
end off the fluorescent unit to install it. Also I fit the diffuser inside
the light unit (not glued, just as a guide) for aligning it with the main
viewer box, put a bead of epoxy around the diffuser, and glued it to the
viewer box instead of sticking it with double stick foam tape. Careful if
you do this so you don't glue the light unit to the viewer. (Once the
epoxy starts to set, pull the light unit off.) This fitting will allow you
to get the light unit flush to the viewer when the light unit is
installed-- it will look ugly if you don't. Alan's advice to paint the
white endcaps of the fluorescent light are worth following for the
appearance of the unit-- makes a big difference, and any good spray paint
works. You do have to take the light unit apart, unless you extensively
mask it, but that's easy. Also, to install the UV filter, remove the lens
on the fluorescent light, trim it, and stick it inside.

Lastly, take the time to use filler, and sand the edge joins flush...
