I went back and re-read your message. I can see I misunderstood. You
suggested to cut down the housing. I thought you meant to cut down the
bulb. I don't think you can alter the bulbs because there is inert gas
inside.
The existing bulb is too long to fit between the wooden ends of the Saturn
viewer, so hacking the lamp housing won't help. I will check if smaller
flourescent bulbs exist next time I'm in that store.
