Hike higher, Sam! We were up above tree line on several occasions!

Up there in the mountains, though, 4 feet of separation doesn't
buy you all that much. If the mountains are a mile or couple
away, 4 feet isn't enough of a base. Plus from where you are
likely to be shooting the near mountains may completely obscure
anything behind them, so if you go hyper and exclude the foreground,
you end up shooting a nearly flat background as the subject.

My first adventure with my twin Ricohflex setup was to Bryce
Canyon...a perfect spot for a 4 to 8 foot hyper bar!

Speaking of which, Sam mentioned while we were visiting how tempted
he was to take advantage of some cheap winter airfare specials to
Las Vegas to get out and do some stereo shooting. Later that day,
completely unprompted, my wife mentioned that Sam seemed like a
great guy, and suggested I could meet up with him in Vegas to go
on a stereo shoot together! I had to point out that Sam has a
wife and daughter he'd probably prefer to have along for company!

(The connection is that Las Vegas is the closest major airport to
Bryce Canyon.)
