My viewer is pretty dark inside so I'm
mostly concerned with light that comes
through the mount. The light bouncing
off the front except in extreme cases
is usually less of a problem.
One extreme case is my Hale-Bopp slide.
It is about as dark as a moonlit scene
(which is what it was). So room light
reflecting off your skin has a big effect.
I have a blackened 6x6 mount in front
of the slide slot that is used as a light
blocker. So with a 6x6 slide (like the
Hale-Bopp one), only a bit of white mount
around each edge is visible to reflect
light back at you. When you view 645
mounted slides there is a lot more white
mount visible.
For my next MF viewer I considered
making a second slide slot and having
different light blocks for every size
mount Joel makes. But you usually view
slides in random order (of mount openings)
so it would be too big a pain.
Hope that's clear(er) - Greg
