Hello,
I stumbled onto this at news:sci.optics. Anybody want to answer him or
recruit for MD3d, P3d, or T3d?

Hello,
I am writing an application in MFC that uses directX 3D models and
displays them to two separate video cards, slightly offset for left and
right eye. This produces a stereoscopic 3D effect. I would like to
know
if there is a ratio between total eye separation (we will say x axis
offset), Distance of object from the eye (Z axis offset) and scale of
object.
I have been using a total eye separation (interpupillary distance) of 7
centimeters, z axis offset of 23 centimeters (I am guessing on the focal
point, maybe someone can correct me?) and a field of view of about 30º.
Now my problem is: I need to scale each of these objects so that there
is a proper stereo 3D effect, but so that the image also appears to fill
up as much screenspace as possible. Okay it is apparent that I know
almost nothing about optics, does anyone know any ratios or
characteristics of human vision so that I may make this program work
predictably? I thank you in advance for your help!
Best Regards,
Carlos
