[MF3D.FORUM:1293] Re: First Review of the New Mounts

Thanks for the review notes, Sam.

BTW, there's an important point that I left out of the
discussion of the black mount samples when I asked
last week for feedback and samples requests. When last
we talked about black mounts on the list, the word from
the manufacturer was that they could make black mounts
by printing the front surface with black ink. They had
not been encouraging this approach out of concern the ink
might turn moist fingers black. In trying to fill Sam's
request for black samples, they did first make some by
printing them black. But they were not happy with how
those came out, so they didn't even ship them to me for
evaluation. Instead they found a supplier of a thin
black card stock (in Sweden!) and used that card stock as
another layer applied to the outside of their standard
card stock. So in addition to providing the black color,
the added black layer makes this mount 50% thicker than
the new standard white mounts.

With the combination of precision dies designed and approved
by Steve Spicer, good quality base card stock, inner grey
layer for improved opacity, and the outer black layer
providing additional thickness and stiffness, and cutting
front reflections, these may well be the highest quality
cardboard mounts that have even been commercially manufactured.

If you would like a sample but haven't already requested one,
write to me at mailto:samples@xxxxxxxxx
