When I talked to him at the trade show he said that making a
microprocessor controlled motorized film advance was less expensive
than making a mechanical advance. He didn't have to design or machine
a complicated gear train that the mechanical advance would have
needed.
It has another neat feature. If you plug the flash sync from your
shutter into the film back it will auto advance two seconds after the
shutter fires. Of course that means your shutter speed needs to be
less than two seconds in order to use this feature.
Personally I'd like to see him make a 6x12 version of this back to fit
his 4x5 camera (or other cameras that use the Graflex
Graphlock/International back).
