Most insurance companies are different.

As has been mentioned most insurance companies home owner/renter
policies don't cover the cost of photo equipment above a pretty low
amount.  If you get a rider, you can get more coverage, but many
insurance companies will object to insuring what they consider your
professional gear (based solely on the cost of the equipment, not how
you use it).  Most policies will also only pay what they consider your
gear to be worth (almost nothing if it's used) as opposed to the
actual replacement cost of the equipment.

You can get a policy (not necessarily a home owner/reneter policy)
that will cover photo equipment for its replacement value (with no
deductable).  This has come up in rec.photo.equipment.large-format a
few times.  It might be in Google if they've gotten that much of the
Deja archives straightened out.

I seem to recall that State Farm was better than most, but you may
want to check with your insurance agent to be sure.
