Medium format:

Thanks Dave for your comment on my 35mm chrome work. Just let me know when
you're ready to buy some MF slides, OKAY! ;-) They will not be dupes,
which is both a good (for you) and bad (for me) thing.

I had seen the MF slides of Paul Talbot at both the Green Bay and Mesa
conventions. Beautiful, memorable images. They finally sunk in this
year...

Plus, I got a comby for Christmas to help me get a clearer view of my 35mm
slides - but it still wasn't enough! Now, I am amazed to find that even
through a vintage non-achromatic scope, the MF chromes look so good, they
make the Comby original views look like 35mm dupes.

I'm still looking for my first MF rig. I missed out on "3dshooter's"
twinned rolleiflexes with 80mm Zeiss lenses for $700 by just a few minutes!
a couple? months ago. I can't remember if he put that on sell-3d or the
3dglamour list. in any case, I took just a minute too long wondering how I
would pay for it, and have since regretted missing out on a steal.

I've shot my model Betty for two sessions now using borrowed MF equipment.
First time I used a motordriven Hassie to shoot on a slidebar. i shot both
2.5 inch and four inch bases, to see how much of a different effect it
would be. The jury is still out on that. Slight problems with motion
rivalry here and there.

The second session I used two Yashica TLRs. The lenses were slightly
mismatched in f.l., but it is not too noticeable. I broke my twin cable
release trying to run it sharply away from the lenses... so I shot the
session using the two finger and one toe method (toe sets off the strobes).
The stereobase was necessarily about four inches. The four inches does
not look to bad, but I would not be able to do close ups with that kind of
base, unless I get into macro lenses ($$$?). And I do like my closeups.

I'm tending towards looking for a good single MF camera, either a TLR or
reflex camera. The slide bar results are pretty good with Betty - she's
not fidgety like some models can be. I can always get the second camera
later.

Actually, an SLR type MF camera like the Pentax appeals to me as well.
Just like with my 35mm rigs, I could mount base to base for close up
stereobase, or mount head to head for a stereo viewfinder rig with wider
base. Plus when I win the lottery, I can add lenses...

Just dreaming!

Boris
