I am a newbie in stereo. I shoot Landscapes in 4x5 and 8x10, and got
hooked on stereo seeing 35mm stereo viewer...then found this list, met Paul
T, he showed my the Saturn with his images, and voila, hooked! I have been
attempting to do this for about a year now. I must admit, it is the
toughest form of photography I have ever experienced. So much can go
wrong, its amazing one gets any good shots.
I was shooting two Mamiya 7's on a Jaspar 24" slide bar. The cameras
produces stunning chromes. The more I experimented and learned about stereo
and utilizing the proper bases and the landscape scenes I shoot, I am
finding these cameras are not ideal for my shooting situation. I find
stereo pairs most appealing at 50% of MOFD. This means I need bases much
shorter than my M7's will allow, which are 165mm. I began tilting the
camera upwards and even using Mike Davis's ladder trick on a high tripod.
It is simply too hard to push the nears so far away on every shot. At
least after a year, I know just what I want in a MF stereo camera, however,
it's just not made.
My dream MF stereo camera would have front movements of rise / fall
and tilt. The lenses would be synced and there would be gg focussing and a
very small fixed base of 85mm. The lenses would be modern optics with
decent image circles, such as Rodenstock Grandagons. It also would have a
6x17 roll film back to capture two 6x7 chromes. I actually think this
camera is possible, I have been speaking to Keith Canham, the maker of field
view cameras recently. I gave him my design of a 5x7 field view camera that
can be 3 cameras in 1, a 5x7 / 4x5 camera, a 6x17 Pan camera with roll film
back, and a MF stereo camera with interchangeable lenses. If anyone has
any interest in such, let me know....
If I missed something on market that can do almost all these
things, let me know what it is.... I would be very interested..
