You mentioned multi size scanners which reminded me of an article in the
Sept./Oct. issue of "PC Photo" magazine  which might interest you.  They
discuss the Microtek ScanMaker 5 which has a street price of $2500.  (Too rich
for my blood.)  It has two separate scan heads,  one for flatbed print
scanning and one for negative/slide scanning.

It has different film holders for 35 mm strip, 35 mm slides, 2 1/4 and 4 x 5
sizes.  Each holder accommodates several negatives at a time.

It scans at 1000 x 2000 dpi optical.  Dynamic range of 3.4.  The reviewer
seemed to be high on the unit and the software convenience features.
