I use an Epson Photo printer and print on their film media. Many of my colagues grab the prints from my hand and look at them with the loupe when I tell them they aren't photographic prints. One of them even got upset when I told him that I spent less than $200.- on the printer.
The newer ones are even higher res. I would recomend the Epson StylusPhoto  EX. I've never used one but it is the same technology as mine with a higher res and can print 11" width and as long as 40"!!  You'll need considerable RAM for that (but ram is cheaper and larger than ever!)

As for the scanner Ihave been using PhotoCDs, but I'll be getting a film scanner at some point, one greatly overlooked point with them has always been the dynamic range (very important for that shadow detail).
