Dye transfer from transparencies needs only three color seps, though one
does have to make highlight masks and do unshark masking as well. From the
three color seps you expose the matrix film. The exposure causes selective
hardening of the emulsion , and then the matrix film is washed at high temp
to wash away the unhardened material.
Dye transfer from color negs requires a pan matrix film but many less steps
as one can go directly form the color neg.
As far as I know kodak doesn't make the materials any more. Super xx was
the film of choice for color seps due to it's long straight line
"curve".It's out of production as well, though a company in france is
making a film similar to it. Jamie
