I tried that and it worked.  You don't have to fill the pipe.  You just do
continuous agitation and use the chemicals as one-shot. You pre-soak the
film first. I have done the same to process long paper. You can make a water
tank from pvc rain gutter to float your pipe in for temp control.  You can
also process in total darkness with a set of pvc rain gutter tanks. "Rango"
brand has a vinyl snap-on end cap system that allows you to make sets of
different length troughs for paper or film.  Does Martha Stewart know this? 
 btw, if you can't get black pipe you can wrap PVC with electrical tape.
