I disagree with the only B&W for art. Ansell Adams is an
accepted master of B&W landscape, but have you seen any of his
colour landscape work? Fantastic sublte use of colour, not the
blatant saturation of todays fashion. And this despite the fact
that he preferred B&W!
Rant ends here....
Felix
Ansel's color was printed by his archivist, Jeff Nixon. Ansel himself was
horozontal in bed undergoing an unsuccessful recovery from his second heart
attack.
The same principles apply to color, with the asset that printing under
density is an accepted effect called 'harbinger color.' Whereas, under
density with black and white is simply awful.
The control with color is just as exciting as with Black and White. It's
the print, and no painter can get pinpoint detail like a well rendered
photograph.
