Can I suggest that Nikon's Super Coolscan II is worth a look. It has been
replaced by the LSIII but some supplier, at least in the UK, have some left
and are selling them for half their original price. Its optical resolution
is 2700dpi but where it does score is its colour depth, 36bit as opposed to
30bit. This I find makes a big difference in practice.
