Did you shoot into the sun (or very close to it)? I had the same problem before
which I couldn't explain. So I reckoned it was due to the fact that for
part of frame the sun light shot into the slit opening and lit the drum causing
overexposure. I term this phenomenon "optical banding" for my own reference.
I saw some people on this list posting simialr problems.
