The problem is that the fungus eats away at the emulsion so that there is no
way to get rid of the damage.  I am hopeful that the new digital duping
processes will alleviate some of the damage in the same way as dust and
scratches. btw did someone point out that it is the Ektachrome type film
that is most susceptible to fungus?  I've never seen fungus on old Kodachromes.
